Frequently asked questions

What makes Aleppo soap unique compared to other soaps?

Aleppo soap stands out due to its centuries-old traditional crafting process, primarily using virgin olive oil and laurel berry oil. Unlike most commercial soaps, it contains no harsh chemicals, artificial fragrances, or synthetic additives, making it exceptionally pure and natural. This unique composition allows for deep cleansing without stripping the skin's natural moisture, suitable even for sensitive skin.

Where is Avlia's Aleppo soap manufactured, and how do you ensure its authenticity?

Our Aleppo soaps are handcrafted with precision and care in Turkey. We ensure authenticity by rigorously following the exact traditional methods passed down through generations. Our commitment to using only the finest natural ingredients, like premium olive oil and varying percentages of laurel oil, further guarantees the genuine quality and heritage of every bar.

What are the key ingredients in Avlia Aleppo soap and what benefits do they offer?

ALEPPO SOAP

Twenty-one handmade soaps from the Artemis workshops of Anatolia, made the slow way — cold-pressed, cut by hand, and cured on wooden racks for weeks before they ever reach a box.

Cold-process soapmaking applies no heat at any stage, and that is the entire point of it. Heat is what destroys the vitamins, antioxidants and aromatic compounds that make a good oil worth using in the first place, so a bar made this way keeps what an industrial one cooks away. It also takes considerably longer, which is why almost nobody does it at scale any more.

What's in the collection

The range runs from the very gentle to the genuinely serious. There are milk bars built on donkey and goat milk, for skin that has stopped tolerating anything harsh. There are botanicals — real lavender essential oil, Isparta rose, jasmine, aloe. There are traditional Anatolian bars made the same way for centuries, including St. John's wort solar-infused in olive oil and pine tar rendered in earth kilns. And there is a full actives group — retinol, salicylic acid, glycolic acid, kojic acid, niacinamide, snail mucin — for anyone who reads ingredient lists.

Every bar in the collection

  • 100 g, cut by hand
  • Cold-processed and cured for several weeks
  • Paraben-free and SLS-free
  • Never tested on animals
  • Vegan-friendly, apart from the two milk bars and the snail mucin bar
  • Built on the same base: olive oil, coconut oil and vegetable glycerin

Because each bar is cut by hand from a poured block, no two are quite the same. Slight differences in size, shade and marbling are the signature of the method rather than a flaw.

Making a bar last

Keep it on a draining dish and never leave it sitting in water. A cold-process bar that dries out fully between uses will last two to three times longer — it is the only thing that really matters.
